Public Incubator

Wikipedia defines a Business Incubator as a program designed to accelerate the successful development of an entrepreneurship. A Public Incubator is somewhat similar to a Business Incubator, though it is intent is to accelerate the development of ideas to benefit the public good. Many Universities and non-profit organization succeed in a goal of public good, though few if any provide a democratic process of refinement. A Public Incubator incorporates a process of citizenry, measurement, and refinement to culture community ideas. A two word definition of the Do Good Gauge would be Public Incubator.

Argumentation Theory

Argumentation theory, or argumentation, embraces the arts and sciences of civil debate, dialogue, conversation, and persuasion; studying rules of inference, logic, and procedural rules in both artificial and real world settings. Computational Linguistics

Argument connectivity will involve a mixture of computer automation and human input. Computational Linguistics provides a field of study with possibilities to automate the connection, relevancy, and supportive direction of arguments.

Gauge Theory

- As defined on Wikipedia

In physics, the mathematical description of any physical situation usually contains excess degrees of freedom; the same physical situation is equally well described by many equivalent mathematical configurations. For instance, in Newtonian dynamics, if two configurations are related by a Galilean transformation—an inertial change of reference frame—they represent the same physical situation. These transformations form a group of "symmetries" of the theory, and a physical situation corresponds not to an individual mathematical configuration but to a class of configurations related to one another by this symmetry group. This idea can be generalized to include local as well as global symmetries, analogous to much more abstract "changes of coordinates" in a situation where there is no preferred "inertial" coordinate system that covers the entire physical system. A gauge theory is a mathematical model that has symmetries of this kind, together with a set of techniques for making physical predictions consistent with the symmetries of the model.

The relevancy gauge provide an appealing method for the reader to influence argument connectivity. Luis von Ahn, the inventor of Captcha describes how he added a second term to the password phrase for the purpose of automating the OCR of deteriorating paper documents in the PBS Nova Science Now episode 401.

Fearless Change

An argument is a prescribed resolution to a problem put forth by an individual or like thinking group with the desire to push the idea in a specified direction. Implementing a suggestion involves convincing or changing the mindset of the customer or recipient. The book Fearless Change utilize the Design Pattern language defined by Christopher Alexander to identify complex concepts to advance change.

MIT Center for Collective Intelligence

The Center for Collective Intelligence brings together faculty from across MIT to conduct research on how new communications technologies are changing they way people work together. This first-of-its-kind research effort draws on the strengths of many diverse organizations across the Institute including; the MIT Media Lab, the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Public Sphere

- As defined on Wikipedia

The public sphere is an area in social life where people can get together and freely discuss and identify societal problems, and through that discussion influence political action. It is "a discursive space in which individuals and groups congregate to discuss matters of mutual interest and, where possible, to reach a common judgement." The public sphere can be seen as "a theatre in modern societies in which political participation is enacted through the medium of talk" and "a realm of social life in which public opinion can be formed".

Stephen Toulmin

In Reason in Ethics (1950), his doctoral dissertation, Toulmin sets out a Good Reasons approach of ethics, and criticizes the subjectivism and emotivism of philosophers who fails to do justice to ethical reasoning.

Synergetics, Tensegrity (Buckminster Fuller)

From Wikepedia

Tensegrity is a portmanteau of tensional integrity. It refers to structures with an integrity based on a synergy between balanced tension and compression components.

In 1981 at age 85 Buckminster Fuller published his book called, Critical Path. Fullers vision of utilizing technology for social improvement was years ahead of the time. In perspective, 1981 was the birth year of the personal computer.

It is sad to say 26 years after Fuller's death, computer technologies has not progressed much in the realm of argument theory. The Do Good Gauge is an attempt to extend Bucky's ideas.

Transdisciplinarity

From Wikipedia

"Transdisciplinarity connotes a research strategy that crosses many disciplinary boundaries to create a holistic approach. It applies to research efforts focused on problems that cross the boundaries of two or more disciplines, such as research on effective information systems for biomedical research (see bioinformatics), and can refer to concepts or methods that were originally developed by one discipline, but are now used by several others, such as ethnography, a field research method originally developed in anthropology but now widely used by other disciplines."

"Transdisciplinarity is also used to signify a unity of knowledge beyond disciplines" -- Nicolescu 20
